What is Acne?
Acne is the name given to a skin condition that occurs due to overproduction of oil by the skin that gets trapped in the pores and causes pus-filled pimples and sometimes even deeper lesions known as cysts. These blemishes look bad and serve as a cause of social discomfort and embarrassment, particularly for teenagers.
Acne is of many types, the most common of which are known as whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. With the advancement in medical technology, it is now possible to cure nearly all types of acne including cystic acne. These treatments range from simple rub-on ointments or creams to thermal and laser treatment.
Men are more likely to become victims of this irritating condition. This is because acne is stimulated by male hormones known as androgens.
